About Me

I am a retired U.S. Navy Captain, Civil Engineer Corps, USN. Spent three tours of duty in Southeast Asia (Danang, Dong Ha & Quang Tri, Vietnam & Chiang Kham, Thailand - 1966-68) with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ELEVEN (Seabees - NMCB-11) working under the Third Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) in the Northern I-Corps in Vietnam. In Thailand, I was OIC of Seabee Team 1109 working with the Thai Border Patrol Police (BPP) in Chiang Kham, Thailand, on the Thai border with Burma and Laos. Spent a 26-year career on active duty in the Civil Engineer Corps, U.S. Navy, retiring in September 1991. Also spent two years in USAF ROTC at Clemson University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1965, and three years in the Seabee Reserves, NMCB-6, Unit 6-3, Greenville, SC. Have a masters degree in Financial Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, 1977. Completed advanced studies in facilities management from the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA), Alexandria, VA, 1995. Have received for naval service the Legion of Merit, Navy & Marine Corps Medal (Herorism), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Meritorious Medal (3 awards), Combat Action Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (with Fleet Marine Corps device and 5 campaign-battle stars), Navy Unit Commendation (two awards). Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (8 awards), Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defence Service Medal (two awards), Navy "E" Ribbon, Navy Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and numerous other service medals and ribbons. In civilian life, I have worked in facilities management positions for the City of Hapeville, Emory University and The Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center in Atlanta, GA, as a construction liaison official for Pickens County Government, GA, and been involved in disaster relief and restoration efforts for FEMA and the US Navy after Hurricanes Katrina and Wilma on the Gulf Coast and John in New Mexico, working for the BE&K Government Services Group, a Division of KBR International. Currently, I am a songwriter (BMI), writer, artist, photographer, construction project manager, and owner of Geibel Enterprises in Big Canoe, GA.
